Extended Services Agenda

By 2010, all young people, should have access to the core offer of extended services in or through their school, all secondary schools must be able to provide access to a varied menu of study support and enrichment activities which provide fun and stimulating activities for young people, as well as a safe place to be. The East Midlands Swimming Academy have been offering swimming lessons at the West Bridgford School for a number of months now, and have now taken on the role of coordinating the after school activities club, operating in accordance with the extended schools agenda. The club "Activ8" will allow young people 11+, to participate in after schools activities, ranging from various sports, to other non sporting activities.

How do parents benefit from extended services?

Parents will have greater choice, flexibility, convenience and accessibility to help them balance family and work commitments. The 8am-6pm offer allows greater flexibility for full or part-time employment. Some parents may choose to use home-based carers who can also be part of the extended schools offer. Working parents on lower incomes, who are accessing childcare through their school, can benefit from claiming the childcare element of the working tax credit which can cover up to 80% of the costs.
